ABSTRACT
The aim of the article is to present psychological aspects of pregnancy and adjustment to motherhood. The author shows the possibilities in which pregnancy complications may alter the normal emotional psychodynamics of this life period and highlights the possible change in maternal adjustment in the high risk pregnancy. In the author's opinion presented issues are crucial for clinical: consulting and therapeutic work with patients in this moment of life. The cited research show that obstetric treatment without taking into consideration the psychological factors and psychotherapeutic support may not be sufficient. The author presents a literature review concerning this topic, with special regard to work of M. Bydlowski, French psychiatrist and psychoanalyst. The material is illustrated with case studies.
