ABSTRACT
The article presents the current knowledge of epidemiology, clinical picture, the course and effects of child and adolescent depression. The author reviews concepts explaining the cognitive and behavioural mechanisms of depression and their clinical implications. She presents the basic assumptions, principles and methods of cognitive-behavioural child and adolescent therapy. She discusses limitations of this therapeutic method and evaluation of its efficiency.
